Hi:

This is the website for Owen Carter, a British guy who has been living in Amsterdam for the last 11 years.

I'm afraid there is nothing earth-shattering here, no solutions for World Peace, no cures for peoples ills.. Just a few of my photos and ramblings.

What no news?

A quick update; I’ve been working on my new website quite a lot; and nothing has really happened here, I should blog more but just have no time.
I’m also busy with my job, which is nice and a lot better than unemployment!

My server is back up and running now.

I’ve decided to start tracking FreeBSD CURRENT. Building my own kernel and world worked like a charm. And now the system has all the most current FreeBSD security patches and technologies, plus it is highly optimised for my hardware and now runs a bit quicker.

Server Down?? No Webcam?? :-O

Sorry hoor; ik werkt op mijn server vanavond.

FreeBSD.6-STABLE

My World and Kernel are now rebuilt, It’s time to move Calvin from a GENERIC FreeBSD server to a STABLE one. Should make my server a bit faster, but mostly it means I get the latest security fixes. And since one of them particularly affects me, this is a good thing.

Calvin Verbetered

My server has been upgraded, up to FreeBSD 6.0.
The upgrade is complete, although I’m still wrapping up some things, one missed goal was to get the Wireless NIC running. Wireless support is supposed to be a strong feature of this new release, but I must confess that I’m unconvinced. So far it does not work, even examples given in the documentation have errors. Grrr.
If I can beat this into shape I can then move the server to a more socially aware location, out of my sitting room.

It is Time…

…to upgrade my server.

I am just about to shut it down, it’s been running a long time:
calvin# uptime
10:24PM up 215 days, 11:35, 3 users, load averages: 0.05, 0.05, 0.05

Apache stats are:
Server uptime: 114 days 10 hours 38 minutes 36 seconds
Total accesses: 150734 – Total Traffic: 804.8 MB
CPU Usage: u534.023 s108.133 cu13333.6 cs0 – .141% CPU load
.0152 requests/sec – 85 B/second – 5.5 kB/request

Nothing spectacular, but a record for me.
