Hi:

This is the website for Owen Carter, a British guy who has been living in Amsterdam for the last 11 years.

I'm afraid there is nothing earth-shattering here, no solutions for World Peace, no cures for peoples ills.. Just a few of my photos and ramblings.

Thieving scum.

They took her and threw her in a canal.
Words fail me, only emptyness remains.

Rent a Bike

While I´ve been living in Amsterdam there have been a number of ‘White Bikepublic rental schemes for bicycles, but they have all fallen afoul of the common thief. Meanwhile private bicycle rental firms have flourished, mainly becuse they take a deposit and ID.
Well, it looks like the French city of Lyon has a successful scheme now, using technology to track the bikes and making theft a much harder option. Quite an interesting idea really, I wonder how long before Amsterdam tries again..

My new bike..

..is fantastic :-) a Swedish army bike, lovingly restored by me (I feel like the mice from Bagpuss).

All good things must have an ending.

So I bid farewell to my marvelous bicycle, she will be sadly missed.

Origami Motorcycles!

Yamaha have a cool freebie on their website, paper models to print and construct, and it’s not just Motorcycles, they have other models too!

Sad News

My favorite Bike racer, Steve Hislop, is dead.

Bugs

Do you have a ‘Splatometer’? the RSPB is using them to monitor flying insects.. Personally I think they should look at bikers crash-helmet visors.

Back to the Netherlands tomorrow

I had a last-minute hiccup with the bike, the damn speedo cable broke (again..). However, those nice folks at Rob Wilishires had a new one on the shelf. So it’s up to Harwich, and over the north sea we go without having to be ultra-paranoid with the speed cameras.

Home again

I’m back in the UK, at my parents place in North Waltham (Hampshire, UK). Picking up my Motorbike and seeing friends..
