Hi:

This is the website for Owen Carter, a British guy who has been living in Amsterdam for the last 11 years.

I'm afraid there is nothing earth-shattering here, no solutions for World Peace, no cures for peoples ills.. Just a few of my photos and ramblings.

Billy Bass?

One of those novelty items that soon becomes irritating.. But now someone has turned one into a Talking Agent for computers. Brilliant!

Who is Zahi Hawass

He’s in charge of Egypt’s antiquities, I’ve seen him on TV a few times, and now I know more. A person who will do a lot of good for Egypt’s relics I hope.

The nine billion names of God

A real ‘blast from the past’, This short story by Arthur C Clarke really made an impact on me when I was 10 or so, and it still rings true as a warning about the unexpected consequences of too much curiosity allied to advances in technology.

Very small helicopter!

This is a quite remarkable robotic helicopter made by Epson as a research project. This sort of stuff is sooo cool.. The BBC has a story on this which is easier to read ;-)

Gore Vidal.

Gives his opinions on the current US administration.. Not too impressed I’d say.
With each action Bush ever more enrages the Muslims. And there are a billion of them. And sooner or later they will have a Saladin who will pull them together, and they will come after us. And it won’t be pretty.

Take the Simpsons Diet!

Some researchers hava analysed Simpsons video’s and calculated what his diet consists of (mostly Donuts). See the calorie count.

Yawn..

There’s a rumour about the British royal family that is supposed to be all over the internet but the UK press cannot report. Just took me an hour to find it with any certainty.. and all I can say is ‘so what!’. I think claims that it is ‘all over’ the internet are just another bunch of spin so the press can engague in a big bout of self-justification when they spill the beans.
Funnily enough I always thought Edward would turn out to be the Gay one.. Boooorrrrrring.

Music tonight.

I’m going to see the Skatalites at the Melkweg in Amsterdam.
