Hi: This is the website for Owen Carter, a British guy who has been living in Amsterdam for the last 11 years.
I'm afraid there is nothing earth-shattering here, no solutions for World Peace, no cures for peoples ills.. Just a few of my photos and ramblings.

September 26th, 2002 | Owen They’re back, the Official Monster Raving Loony Party of the UK is having it’s annual conference. They’re the only UK political party that I have any respect for, because they’re honest. It’s good to see they have a new leader who is continuing the tradition of sending up UK politics, that was done so well in the past by Screaming Lord Sutch. They’re called the ‘Offical’ loony party so as not to be confused with the unoffical loony parties – the Tories, Liberals and Labour
September 25th, 2002 | Owen While writing the last post on the ‘church’ of Scientology I learned that there is a piece of software bundled in with Windows2000 (and Windows XP apparently), which is 100% written by scientologists, and has total access to all files on the computer. If I trusted the ‘church’ of Scientology this would not be an issue, but I don’t. Read about them to understand why, the ‘church’ has regularly used private detective agencies to investigate their critics. I’m not desperately serious aboput this being a real issue, Microsoft would go ballistic if anything underhand was discovered in this software, and even the ‘church’ would not risk that, but it still makes me wonder?
September 25th, 2002 | Owen And they’re up to their old tricks again. For a writeup about why these nutters are dangerous, and should be ignored, read Xenu.net. It’s a very critical site, but the author quotes, and links to, official ‘church’ of scientology sources, so you can make your own mind up. You wont find the ‘church’ doing this, in fact, they get their memebers to use web filtering software that blocks access to sites critical of scientology (how long before I get added?). If this isn’t ‘Cult mind control’, it’s something -very- similar.
September 24th, 2002 | Owen A band that one of my friends sings in have their own webpage! With some pics and tracks on it. You can also get some of their music from this site. Have a listen, they’re great!
Update: 2009, Jo is no longer with them, but I think they are still doing fine.
September 20th, 2002 | Owen Not one of my favorite journalists, but she’s done a classic piece about the Countryside Alliance. To give you a flavour: “And that sums up the Countryside Alliance’s many problems. They are Tories on the march, outraged and uncomprehending at how Labour holds power while they own the land.”
September 20th, 2002 | Owen Wish I did, this bloke does.
September 13th, 2002 | Owen Spam is a nuiscance, and the people who send it are generally at the ‘pond-life’ end of the business ethics scale. But it’s always embarassing to see well-meaning politicians and consumer programs talking about it, since they just don’t understand what the hell they’re talking about. Fortunately, Bill Thompson, has a nice piece on the BBC’s webwise section that explains why it cant simply be solved by legislating ISP’s, in words even Watchdog should be able to understand.
September 13th, 2002 | Owen Intellectual Property, a very hot topic at the moment, with extremely heavy lobbying activities being conducted by the Music and Movie industries to try and get us to conform with their business model, and since they control the mainstream media you don’t often get to hear opposing views (unless you are a net-head like me . So it’s a really nice surprise to see a quasi-governmental group that points out that there is another side to the story. NB: When I look at most hollywood movies I start to wonder where the ‘Intellectual’ bit comes from, but that’s another story..
September 13th, 2002 | Owen Take a Webcam, mount it on the side of a rocket, fly the rocket into space, get a funky video. Cool.
September 11th, 2002 | Owen Today is Signigficant, something I had not realised about Sept.11 was that it’s also the worst terrorist attack in British history, more Britons lost their lives than in any other bit of terrorist stupidity. Not something I had realised until this morning, when I read this article by Simon Schama.
September 6th, 2002 | Owen A Sensible account of how to balance safety/security and freedom for kids going online, the first really clued-up article I think the BBC has ever done on this.
September 6th, 2002 | Owen Consorship, but not in the ususal manner, this is self done by PBS (American Public Service Broadcasting) in an apparenty effort to prevent any critisism from the Pro-Israel elements in the US. You can read the original text here, not very provocative really, for instance it has no mention of Jewish Terrorism. Also an article about it here on The Register.
